OMAHA, NE – Authorities responded to a collision late Wednesday morning, May 15, in southwest Omaha that critically injured a woman who was operating a motorized scooter.

The incident took place on a stretch of South 96th Street near Mockingbird Drive, prompting a response from Omaha Police officers at about 11:30 a.m.

Officials said the victim, 60, was riding a motorized scooter in the curb lane of South 96th Street when  the wheelchair was rear-ended by a 92-year-old man driving a Buick Lacrosse southbound.

First responders transported the woman to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy, where she was treated for leg injuries considered “severe.” The victim, who suffered medical issues prior to the crash, was listed in critical condition at the time of WOWT’s report Wednesday night.

An investigation remains ongoing.
